Hickey Freeman Mens
Clothes
Despite Changes in Fashion, Hickey Freeman Mens Shirts Remain One of
the Top Men’s Clothing Designers
On a brisk autumn day in 1899, some men talked about starting their own mens
clothing business. Their idea was a simple one: make ready-to-wear suits that
compared to custom tailored mens clothes.
In 1899 Jacob Freeman was 29 years old and Jeremiah Hickey was 32. They worked
in a mens clothes company, Wile, Brickner and Wile in RochesterNew York. Hickey and
Freeman became close friends and started their own mens clothes business in
1899.
It was a common practice in the early 1900’s for mens clothes manufactures to
engage many small tailor shops. Garments were cut and assembled in different
locations and then brought together for shipping. The single factory of Hickey
Freeman mens clothes was innovative at the time.
The Hickey Freeman mens clothes production was set up in an assembly line
fashion because an individual mens clothes tailor might be especially
proficient at setting a sleeve but not so adept at stitching a collar or
rolling a lapel. By assigning specific tailoring functions to those who
performed them best, the Hickey Freeman finished garment was far better than
any one tailor could have achieved alone.
The Hickey Freeman sportswear collection is another example of the company’s
effort to keep pace with the changing lifestyle of American men and mens
clothes. Introduced in 1996 the mens clothes sportswear collection retains
the Hickey Freeman heritage of quality and craftsmanship with relaxed
styling contours and choice fabrics in rich colors and textures from Italy and Great
Britain. The Hickey Freeman mens clothes
sportswear collection meets the needs of casual dressing
for men who demand the best in comfort, fit, and appearance.
Despite the dramatic changes in mens clothes, merchandising and manufacturing during
the past 100 years, Hickey Freeman remains the one clothing maker that men rely
upon for business wear, formal wear, and sportswear of the highest
caliber.
